Im what one would describe as a “political cynicist”, if there is such a term like that. The peak of my political activity is probably during election times, especially this year which has caught my attention like an nba playoff series. Probably, its the 8 years of poor political leadership by Bush and his cronies that has flamed this seething urge to see people get their shit straight in the white house. Much have changed through eight years: The purchase of a trillion dollar war whose monthly payment is in billions, The surplus economy that has dwindled down to a deficit, The dollar being rudely scoffed at by the Euro, The 40 million people walking around with no health care coverage incase they fall sick from…say the beef recalled last month, The mortgage crisis looming ahead holding the sceptre of recession, the price of gas ratcheting up at the pump… In short, we are in deep shit, for lack of a better term.
The next president who will be undertaking the difficult feat of pulling us from this shit hole has a pile of work to do on his/her plate. Im not talking about the straight talk express that has derailed off its track a long time ago to follow the perilous track led by Bush and his cohorts. Im talking about the two democrats who are now running neck and neck and most likely bound for a wreck. Not long ago, they seemed to hold the dreams, aspiration and hopes of millions of people for hatching the perfect plan or atleast the vision to fix these issues. I pinned my hope on either of them, and even pondered the possibility of them running together with whomever at the helm. I was looking forward to their debates and speeches detailing out the nits and grits of how they could bring about the “change” or “solution” that we are truly seeking. However, lately the media, which seems to dictate the voting pattern of most people in this counrty has switched from focusing on the real issues to the frivolous matters. Its not surprising considering the media’s obsession for conflicts and scandals and succumbing to the one providing it. But whats surprising is to see Hillary, who once promised to run a clean campaign, stoop down for the media and fan the flames of controversy. Thats when ego overtakes integrity and instinct makes you disseminate fear to activate the adrenaline gland of people and have them react emotionally not logically. A trick which has effectively worked by the Bush adminstration and now perfectly finding its niche in Hillary. She crafted a “creepy” ad on who is best qualified to answer the phone at 3.AM. An ad on which an average Joe could laugh at and raise a simple question whether she is auditioning for an operator or presidency job. Apparently, it struck the fear chord in the hearts of people and she seems reluctant to put this dirty trick down now that the results have been fruitful. However, unless she is living in the palace of grandiose illusion where ducks lay golden eggs, she has no chance of overtaking the delegate lead or popular vote or majority state. and the fact that she is relentlessly spewing negative propaganda would only embolden the label that she is an egotistic maniac clad in bright pant suits. But, I will continue to hold my upbeat temperament as long as Obama doesn’t stoop down to her level and start throwing knife for knife. If he does, I will happily crawl back into my warm and comfrotable cave of political cynicism. No harms done, No love lost.
